After a leisurely start, it’s time to step up our training a little so join the Chain Gang for our first climbing ride of the year with a trip up the fabled La Tuna Canyon!
From Crystal Springs Picnic area in Griffith Park, we start with our usual Studio Loop route and then continue towards Sunland, with our first pit stop at Sunland Produce. From there, we tackle the famous climb up La Tuna Canyon – it’s a great training hill with a steady and gradual 4.5 mile climb to the top, and a nice shoulder with turnouts if you need to take a break. With the help of our wonderful ride leaders, you will make it to the top and nobody is left behind!
Our reward for the climb is a fabulous long downhill to Montrose for a well deserved pit stop, and another long descent through Glendale, all the way to Sonora and back into Griffith Park again. We look forward to riding with you!
Driving Direction: We will meet at the Lower Crystal Springs Picnic Area in Griffith Park – from Crystal Springs Drive, go down the hill past the Ranger Station, and keep to the right at the bottom of the hill at the bathroom building. Continue along the far side of the baseball field until the road turns to the left away from the field. We will be in that part of the parking lot, look for TRL’s in bright orange vests!
All skill levels are welcome! If any ride is too much, we will work with you on making sure you have alternatives to the entire route. You will have a great bike ride. That’s a win! And remember, safety is critical. We will be following all bicycling laws and regulations as well as COVID regulations.!
